This is an exciting time in the sailing world, firstly with the America’s Cup itself back in this country for the first time since 1995, and hence the next official event in San Francisco in September 2013. Secondly… San Diego was just selected a few days ago to be host city to one of the very prestigious “America’s Cup World Series” events to be held in October or November this year. How does this affect the yacht ‘America’? Well… though a beautiful replica of the original ‘America’ of 1851 to 1945, she is still considered today by the authorities and America’s Cup hierarchy as the namesake of the trophy itself and therefore a very important historical ingredient in the overall scheme of things. As such the America’s Cup Event Authority (Event management for the 34th AC event) has encouraged and requested the ‘America’ to go to San Francisco to assist them in their promotion of this 34th event. In a few weeks we hope to be displayed on the America’s Cup web site as the ‘official hospitality yacht’ for all manner of private, official, sponsor and media activities. AMERICA will be in San Francisco from May 15 through to what will likely be the first week of October.
