Built for the Rudolph Schaefer family (racing under the name of Edlu), Orion won the coveted Bermuda Race that same year. Upon winning the Fire Island Race and numerous New York Yacht Club races, Orion established a distinguished history of winning ocean races. This vessel is a classic Sparkman & Stevens design, entirely constructed of teak and mahogany hardwoods, trimmed in the finest koa tigerwood and ebony. Recognized as "one of the world's best ocean boats", in the recent book of S & S designs, Orion is considered by many to be the definitive classic sailboat and one of the finest sailing yachts in the world.
